The false sense of unity in the national team has finally blown out with coach Honour Janza ejecting national team captain Christopher Katongo.

According to bolazambia sources in Ndola Katongo was shown the door for alleged indiscipline in the wake of the 0-all draw away to Niger on Saturday.

Katongo who has been leading a faction within the team is said to have made unsavoury comments about the coach’s tactics.

The long serving skipper openly said on the plane enroute to Ndola that as far as he was concerned he never played in the 0-all draw as he could do nothing in five minutes.

He came on as a substitute for Chisamba Lungu and did not take kindly.

Janza has been struggling to keep a tight ship with camps slowly becoming the norm in the team threatening the power balance.

Zambia plays Niger on Wednesday in Ndola and will have to win to retain some chance of qualification.

A poor start to the campaign has piled pressure on the team that has only managed two points in three matches.

Zambia lies third in Group F where leaders Cape Verde have six points with Mozambique second on five points.

In a dramatic turn of events, Morocco has denied earlier reports that it has withdrawn as hosts of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Reports emerged on Thursday that Morocco had withdrawn as hosts of the biannual event over public health fears regarding the current outbreak of the Ebola virus.

But government spokesman Mustapha Khalfi denied the reports claiming that Morocco has only asked the Confederation of African Football-CAF to postpone the tournament.

Earlier, African football journalist Gary Al-Smith reported that Morocco had pulled out as hosts of the tournament.

Fears over the outbreak of the Ebola virus in Africa have already led to international football being proscribed in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

CAF have contacted a number of countries including Ghana, to assess the feasibility of moving the competition at short notice.

Other reports suggest that CAF may give either Egypt or South Africa, who hosted the 2013 tournament at short notice, after the conflict in Libya prevented them from hosting the tournament.

EPL: Manchester City hold on to defeat ten man Manchester United

(CNN) — It was a game that featured one of the most expensively assembled casts a Manchester derby has ever seen.

Quite rightly then, it was settled by one of the most valuable forwards in world football.

Sergio Aguero celebrates scoring the only goal of the Manchester derby on 2 November 2014

Sergio Aguero celebrates scoring the only goal of the Manchester derby on 2 November 2014

Sergio Aguero’s second half strike was enough to give Manchester City a closely fought 1-0 victory over a Manchester United side that played the majority of this tense match with ten men after Chris Smalling was sent off late in the first period.

The result marks a fourth consecutive derby victory for City and keeps them on the tails of second placed Southampton in the Premier League standings.

“All the games are (worth) three points but it’s important to win the derby,” City manager Manuel Pelligrini told Sky Sports after the match. “It’s a special moment to win against Manchester United.”

Pellegrini’s men have struggled in recent weeks, losing to Newcastle United and West Ham in domestic competitions whilst drawing with CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.

But City showed admirable grit to hold out their opponents Sunday after coming under real pressure in the closing stages.

“They (United) played well towards the end,” City captain Vincent Kompany said. “We had most of the chances but you miss a couple and you can seem to lose control of the game.

“The derby win is massive. For a minute, the league doesn’t matter. It is a boost for us and we will do our job again in the Champions League on Wednesday.”

City’s derby dominance makes the accusations once leveled by former United manager Alex Ferguson about their local rivals being the big spending “noisy neighbors” now seem extremely misguided.

If anything, the big spending tag can is now more apt for United.

The Red Devils trumped City and all others in the Premier League this close season by splashing out over $239 million on new talent like Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera and Daley Blind to aid new manager Louis Van Gaal’s assault on the title.

City were hardly penny pinchers themselves, however, bringing in the likes of Eliquiam Malanga, Fernando and Willy Caballero at a combined cost of $78 million, but were more restrained than in years gone by.

And it was one of the mainstays of the light blues recent success, himself a $60 million signing from Atletico Madrid back in 2011, who would settle this affair.

Aguero looked lively all afternoon, testing David De Gea early on with a rasping strike from a tight angle and then forcing the United keeper into a brave block later in the half.

When Smalling was sent off, after picking up a second booking for a lunging tackle on James Milner that Van Gaal later described as “not very smart,” it looked like the lively Argentine would find more space against United’s depleted back line.

While that didn’t exactly turn out to be the case, as United still created more than their fair share of chances, he was to prove the difference right on the hour mark.

Gael Clichy was expertly played through by Yaya Toure before cutting the ball back for Aguero to sweep the ball high beyond De Gea.

It was a typically smart Aguero goal, displaying nifty movement to step away from his marker to create the space for the pull back.

United reacted by pushing forward despite their numerical disadvantage and came close through efforts from Robin Van Persie and Marouane Fellaini.

City still created chances of their own, however. Jesus Navas cracked the upright after a clever through ball from Toure while Stevan Jovetic made De Gea work after shooting from the edge of the box.

With time running out Wayne Rooney burst through the City defense and claimed to have been brought down by the covering Martin Demichelis.

Referee Michael Oliver remained unmoved and when the ball broke to Di Maria, the Argentine’s shot was brilliantly saved low down to his right by Hart.

It was to be the last clear cut chance of the match as City closed out to maintain their local dominance.

Equatorial Guinea to host 2015 AFCON

Caf-logo-Equatorial Guinea have been named as the hosts for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football has confirmed to the BBC.

Caf selected a replacement for Morocco after rejecting their request to delay the 17 January to 8 February finals.

Morocco were concerned over the spread of the outbreak of the Ebola virus.

Caf subsequently expelled Morocco from the relocated tournament, which will now be held in the country which co-hosted with Gabon in 2012.

Equatorial Guinea will now take on sole responsibility for holding the 16-team event.

Caf said the decision was made after a meeting in Malabo on Friday between Equatorial Guinea’s president Teodoro Obiang and Caf president Issa Hayatou.

African football’s governing body also announced that Equatorial Guinea will play in the tournament – despite the team was disqualified in July for fielding an ineligible player in a preliminary qualifier against Mauritania on 17 May.

Hayatou said in a statement: “The head of state of Equatorial Guinea agreed to host the competition. As a result, the Caf executive committee confirms that the tournament will go ahead and Equatorial Guinea will compete as the host nation.

“Caf wishes to express its sincere thanks to the Equatorial Guinean people, its government and particularly president Obiang.”

Matches will be held at four venues in Bata, Ebebiyin, Mongomo and the capital Malabo. In 2012, only Malabo and Bata were used.

The draw for the finals will be in Malabo on 3 December.

KALU SAYS TUNISIA DEFEAT PAINFUL AS 12 AFCON GAMES UNBEATEN RUN ENDS

$

FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya says Zambia’s 2-1 lost to Tunisia was painful. The result put Zambia at a crucial point needing to win their last Group B match against Cape Verde at the Africa Cup of Nations.

“Chipolopolo played well. We had so many chances at this level. At the end it’s painful, we have no points to show for it,” Kalusha posted on his twitter timeline.

The 12 game unbeaten run in open play for the 2012 champions has ended after Tunisia came from behind to inflict defeat on Chipolopolo who last suffered defeat on 17th January, 2010 in Angola.

Cameroon were the last team to have defeated Zambia in a 5 goal thriller back in 2010 and Zambia had gone 12 games unbeaten in open play but could not extend it to 13th when they met the north African giants whom they have never beaten at Afcon. Tunisia have now won 3 and drawn 2 of the five meetings against Zambia.

Zambia on Thursday lost to Tunisia in a game many will feel it could have been the other way round. Zambia came in this match on the back of a fifth straight draw at Afcon tournament and coach Honour Janza had made three changes to the side that drew with Congo D.R on Sunday with Evans Kangwa starting ahead of fellow club’s mate Ronald Kampamba. Lubambo Musonda replaced Chisamba Lungu on the left flank and Munthali started at the back as Zesco’s Kondwani Mtonga was moved from the back to take up Nathan Sinkala role who has been ruled out of the tournament.

Janza’s charges in this match were on point as Zambia were probing more as compared to last match. Meanwhile Zambia were lucky not to have conceded a penalty when referee paid no attention to Tunisia claims after Sunzu was adjudged for a handball in the penalty area in the 3rd minute.

Zambia had a host of chances in the first half especially from the captain Kalaba. Kalaba tested the keeper first when he shot narrowly wide and then had another chance from outside the 18 area but the Tunisia goalkeeper was equal to the challenge. He came close again in the penalty area and had another chance moments later but could not get the ball behind the net.

Rainford Kalaba who was quite in the first match was arguably the man of the match as every ball to the front had to pass through him and the opposition defence was dismantled at one time by his heroics. Before halftime Mayuka had the best chance to put Zambia ahead when he couldn’t get a descent touch from within inches. Later on Evans Kangwa’s shot was somewhat disappointing when he shot wide past the goal post.

Lubambo also took matters in his own hands when he went on to dribble past the midfield and defence but his finishing was poor as the ball went side of the net.
Kalaba went on rampage but again Evans’ finish was disappointing but a goal was coming. Mayuka who was guilty of a span of chances in both halves could not miss this one as he fired in the roof of the net when a dead ball landed in his feet to put Zambia ahead.

Moments later kangwa came close to adding another but mayuka had the best chance for a second which would unfortunately land him in hospital. Kalaba once again broke through to lead the counter attack and when he laid it through to Mayuka, he could not reach it and subsequently landed him in the woodwork in a horrible accident that saw him being stretched off and rushed to the hospital.

Within a minute after that moment Tunisia went level after being awarded a corner. The defence had gone to sleep or were still dealing with the fact that Mayuka was rushed to the hospital and exposed from that corner. After this goal, Tunisia gained momentum and kept Zambia at the back for most of the remaining minutes.

Meanwhile, Jackson Mwanza, who had come on for injured Mayuka, was for most of the times a passenger and was missing when Zambia launched a counter attack through yet again Kalaba who could just find Lubambo but could not race to tap in the ball. It was from that moment when Tunisia caught Zambian defence napping and headed the winner in the 90th minute to leave Zambia rooted to the bottom. Zambia play Cape Verde on Monday and should hope that Tunisia beats Congo if Congo wins their game.

The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) stood down as hosts because of health concerns surrounding the outbreak of the Ebola virus in west Africa and the event was subsequently switched to Equatorial Guinea.

However, CAF has dismissed the legitmacy of the late withdrawal and consequently decided to impose a fine of $1,000,000 (€830,000) upon the FRMF, order the organisation to pay an additional €8.05m in compensation, and exclude the Atlas Lions from the 2017 and 2019 African Cup of Nations

Tunisia have filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport over the threat of being banned from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Confederation of African Football has given Tunisia until 31 March to apologise for accusing the body of cheating or they will be suspended.

Caf also banned Tunisia Football Association president Wadie Jary.
Tunisia made the allegations over a penalty in a 2-1 loss to Equatorial Guinea at the recent Nations Cup.

That defeat eliminated Tunisia at the quarter-final stage of the competition and furious Tunisia reacted after the game by chasing the match referee, Rajindraparsad Seechurn, who had to be protected by security officials.

Seechurn was banned for six months for his “poor performance”.
Caf fined Tunisia $50,000 (£33,000) for what it termed “the aggressive attitude of some supporters in the stands, invasion of the pitch after the final whistle by players and substitutes of the Tunisian team – insulting the referee of the match and trying to physically assault him”.

The continent’s football governing body also wanted the 2004 champions to apologise for “insinuations of bias and lack of ethics against Caf and its officials, or to present irrefutable evidence to substantiate the accusations”.

However, the Tunisian FA refused and a spokesman said the team had “suffered scandalous injustice from referees”.
